Nursing and midwifery registration standards and guidelines have changed – vodcast now available

07 Feb 2017

Revised registration standards and standards for practice came into effect for nurses and midwives on 1 June 2016. Additional midwifery specific registration standards and guidelines took effect from 1 January 2017.

During 2016, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) held information forums across Australia to engage with nurses and midwives regarding the work of the Board. These information forums also provided an opportunity for nurses and midwives to learn about the changes to the registration standards and standards for practice.

A vodcast of the presentation provided at these information forums is now available online.

This vodcast provides an overview of the NMBA and outlines the changes to the following registration standards and standards for practice:

  • Registration standard: Continuing professional development
  • Registration standard: Recency of practice
  • Registration standard: Professional indemnity insurance arrangements
  • Registration standard: Endorsement as a nurse practitioner
  • Registration standard: Endorsement for scheduled medicines for midwives
  • Enrolled nurse standards for practice
  • Registered nurse standards for practice
