Privately practising midwives and changes to Vero Insurance

02 Sep 2016

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has recently written to privately practising midwives (PPMs) who may be affected by changes to Vero Insurance.

Vero Insurance has withdrawn its professional indemnity insurance (PII) cover for PPMs. PPMs who previously held this cover may need to take steps to manage this change.

The NMBA understands that as a result of Vero Insurance’s actions, PPMs who held insurance with them may no longer be able to meet the NMBA’s Registration standard: Professional indemnity insurance arrangements, particularly the requirements for run off and retroactive cover.

Next steps for PPMs who ever held Vero Insurance

If you are a midwife affected by these changes and you have not received a letter from the NMBA about this issue, please contact AHPRA on 1300 419 495 (within Australia) or +61 3 9275 9009 (for overseas callers).
