A vodcast presentation on the new nursing and midwifery codes of conduct is now available.
The new Code of conduct for nurses and Code of conduct for midwives (the codes) take effect for all nurses and midwives in Australia, in all practice settings, on 1 March 2018. The codes apply to nurses and midwives even if their employer also has a code of conduct.
To help nurses and midwives get to know their new codes, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has released a vodcast presentation which outlines the principles of conduct in the new codes.
The vodcast also highlights differences between the nursing and midwifery codes and draws attention to important areas, including guidance on bullying and harassment and culturally safe care.
The NMBA would like to remind nurses and midwives that viewing the vodcast and reflecting on how the new codes of conduct relate to their practice can count towards continuing professional development (CPD) hours.
The new codes of conduct can be viewed on the professional standards section of the NMBA website, alongside supporting resources.
