Nurses with a sole qualification additional info

Additional information for registered nurses with a sole qualification notation on their registration

This additional information provides clarification regarding the removal of a sole qualification notation as outlined in the following fact sheets:

Generally, to have the notation removed, you will need to complete an NMBA-approved program of study leading to general registration as a registered nurse.

However, the requirement to complete an NMBA approved program of study leading to general registration as a registered nurse does not apply if the qualifications you currently hold are assessed based on the current qualification assessment criteria as:

  • substantially equivalent to an NMBA-approved qualification, or,
  • based on similar competencies to an NMBA-approved qualification

To apply for removal of the notation from your registration complete the Application for removal of notation form – APRN-40 and submit using the Ahpra online upload tool.

If your qualification is assessed as not substantially equivalent to an NMBA-qualification or not based on similar competencies to an NMBA-approved qualification, the requirement to complete an NMBA-approved program of study leading to general registration as a registered nurse still applies for removal of the notation.
